About the Artist: Richard D. Berger

Richard Berger is a commission based artist working out of Monmouth County, New Jersey. An alumnus of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, he studied anatomy, drawing, and composition under Anthony Visco and painting and portraiture with Patrick Connors. At the University of Pennsylvania, his education continued with in-depth studies of the classical histories, art history, religion, philosophy, and literature including a special emphasis in the Italian language and culture. With a culmination of study in Florence and Tuscany and comprehensively studying the ideals of the Renaissance in the re-adaptation of Beauty and civic spaces, it was here, in Italy, that a reaffirmation of his life's dedication to painting and drawing with a traditional basis of perception, craft, and allegory was confirmed.

Mr. Berger's paintings are included in private and public collections in the United States and in Europe, and have been exhibited throughout America. His classically inspired commissioned paintings and drawings include portraiture, still life, landscapes, murals, and the sacred arts.

In 2005, Mr. Berger instructed a class on the properties of chiaroscuro through cast drawing at the Philadelphia Museum of Art (bottom), and in 2006, he gave a lecture on portraiture to the Dwight D. Eisenhower Middle School in Freehold, New Jersey (center). Mr. Berger painting in his studio (top).
